Vitula Baize

Vitula Baize, 97, of Beaver Dam passed away Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015, at Professional Care Health & Rehab in Hartford. She was born Feb. 26, 1918, in McHenry to the late Ruben Fletcher and Liddie Daffron Baize.

She was a graduate of McHenry High School. She served in the U.S. Navy during WWII at Washington, D.C., where she was honorably discharged as a seaman first class. Vitula attended the School of Nursing at Daviess County Hospital and became a registered nurse under the G.I. Bill. After graduating in 1949, she worked at Oneida Maternity Hospital and the State Tuberculosis Sanatorium. In 1954, Vitula moved to Portland, Ore., serving as a nurse in local hospitals and serving the community as a private nurse in local hospitals and serving the community as a private nurse. She worked in the nursing profession some 40 years.

A longtime member of the Church of God, Vitula used her skills as a nurse to serve on several mission trips to Japan. She was a member of Richmond Church of God in Portland and Bible Baptist Church in Beaver Dam. Vitula returned home to Beaver Dam where she lived the last 15 years of her life.

Survivors include two sisters, Florine Baize McKenney, of Beaver Dam, and Luvada Bishop, of Jeffersonville, Ind. She is also survived by 10 nieces and and seven nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam, with Rev. Cleatus Bowman officiating. Burial will be in Sunnydale Cemetery near Dundee. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
