Bill G. Smith, 77, of Hartford, Ky., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2015, at Ohio County Hospital in Hartford, Ky. He was born Feb. 8, 1938, in Hopkins County, Ky., to the late Cleveland Smith and Lucille Pleasant Smith.
Mr. Smith retired from Peabody Coal Company as a heavy equipment operator and was a member of Hartford Christian Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Germany during the Vietnam Era and enjoyed restoring classic cars and cruse-ins with Ohio County Cruisers.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Helen McKnight.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Kay Foster Smith, of Hartford; one daughter, Cathy (Dane) Moore, of Savannah, Ga.; one son, Craig (Shannon) Smith, of Owensboro; four grandchildren, Cameron Moore, Max Smith, Sam Smith and Lucy Smith; and one sister, Charlotte (Darrell) Coffman, of Madisonville and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 7, at Hartford Christian Church in Hartford, Ky., with Mr. Joey Minor and Bro. Mike Sweeney officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford, Ky., and Friday for 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral at the church. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Hartford, Ky.
