Billy Franklin Flener, 81, of Owensboro, passed away Saturday July 4, 2015, at Riverside Care and Rehab Center in Calhoun. He was born Sept. 24, 1933, in Cromwell to the late Boyce Franklin and Erna Allen Flener.
He was a member of Green River Baptist Church and the McHenry Masonic Lodge #800 F&AM and was a Kentucky Colonel. Billy was a retired heavy equipment operator for Peabody Coal Company. He enjoyed fishing and University of Kentucky Basketball.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Boyce and Erna Flener.
Survivors include two sons, Mike (Cherita) Flener, of Owensboro, and Tom Flener, of Seattle, Wash.; two grandchildren, Ian Flener, of Louisville, and Ashtin Flener, of Owensboro. He is also survived by his longtime companion, Cassoline Joines, of Owensboro; her children, Shirlene Joines, of Owensboro, and Patricia Joines, of Owensboro; and her grandchildren, Dylan Joines, Paige Joines, Aidan Joines, Mackenzie Quiggins and Cassidy Joines, all of Owensboro.
Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 9, at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam with Dr. Mitch Donohue officiating. Burial will be in Green River Cemetery in Cromwell. Friends may visit with the family from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
