Ethel Mary Jane McIntosh Brooks, 88, of Powderly, Ky., died Monday, June 15, 2015, at 2:41 p.m. in the Owensboro Health Regional Hospital in Owensboro, Ky., following a short illness. She was born on May 6, 1927, in Greenville, Ky., the daughter of Atlas Monroe McIntosh and Minnie Myrtle Duvall McIntosh.
She was a lifelong member of Powderly Baptist Church where she formed many friendships and enjoyed the fellowship of the ladies in her Sunday School class. She lived her life serving God. Her husband’s, children’s and grandchildren’s needs always came before her own. She enjoyed cooking for them and family get-togethers. She received much pleasure from her flowers. She was loved by all who knew her. Her smile would brighten anyone’s day. We have been so blessed to have a wife and mother so pure of heart.
She was the last surviving sibling of thirteen brothers and sisters.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents and son, Douglas Vinyard Brooks, on Feb. 27, 2015; 12 brothers and sisters, Earl McIntosh, Coy McIntosh, Ray McIntosh, Arvil McIntosh, J. Lee McIntosh, Sadie Boggess, Callie Boggess, Delma Settle, Rosie Crick, Flossie Bryant, Ruthell Motes and Amonell Bryant.
She is survived by her sweetheart and husband of 65 years, Vinyard Filmore Brooks, of Powderly; one daughter and son-in-law, Inett and Charles Keith Ryan, of Dunmor, Ky.; two grandchildren, C.K. (Beth) Ryan, of Beaver Dam, Ky., Jenette Ryan, of Dunmor, Ky., three great-grandchildren, Logan and Jonathan Christie of Penrod, Ky., Westen Smalley, of Dunmor.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, June 18, at 1 p.m. from Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville, Ky., by Reverend Roy Marquess and assisted by Reverend Earl Mayes. Burial will follow in the Woodland Cemetery in Greenville.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 17, between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville and after 9 a.m. on Thursday.
