EmogeneSmithMayfieldEmogene Smith Mayfield, 91, of Owensboro, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at her home. She was born in Ohio County to the late Irvin and Betty Ralph Smith.

Emogene was a strong and spirited lady who remained very active until recent years. She was a longtime member of Hall Street Baptist Church and she knew the Bible very well. She also enjoyed traveling, gardening and cooking.

Emogene was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Mayfield, in 1970; sisters, Blanche Smith and Marjorie Romac; a brother, Irvin Smith, Jr.; and a half-sister, Odessa De-La-Cruz.

She is survived by daughters, Lisa Cox (Roger), of Owensboro, and Donna Wiernik (Eric), of Lawrenceville, Ga.; a son, Larry Mayfield, of Owensboro; grandchildren, Jason, Lori, Randy, Donald, Chris, Stephen and April; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be at noon Saturday, May 16, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and after 10 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
