Bro. Tom L. Shelton, 76, of Beaver Dam, passed away Monday, March 9, 2015, at Beaver Dam Nursing & Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy illness. He was born Nov. 24, 1938, in Jeffersontown, Ky., to the late R.G. Shelton and Helen V. Wright Shelton.
Bro. Shelton retired as Director of Missions for Ohio County Baptist Association, was a member of Second Baptist Church in Greenville, Ky., and formerly served as pastor of Bandana Baptist Church near Paducah, Ky. He was the former treasurer of Hartford Beaver Dam Lions Club and was an honorary member of Gideon’s International, assisted Frank Aubrey with his work for people of Ohio County with disabilities and was involved in prison and jail ministries.
Bro. Tom was an avid UK Basketball fan and served in the United States Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Anne Shelton, of Beaver Dam; one son, Thomas David Shelton (Gwen), of Lexington; one daughter, Debra Jo Shelton Miller, of Cobden, Ill.; two granddaughters, Abby Shelton Sizemore (Justin), of Atlanta, Ga., and Audrey Shelton, of Lexington, Ky.; two sisters, Marilyn Shelton Ladd (Alfred), of Decatur, Ala., and Dr. Janice C. Shelton, of Johnson City, Tenn.; two nieces and several cousins.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 14, at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford, Ky., with Dr. Ray England and Dr. Glenn Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Hartford, Kentucky. Visitation will be Friday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
