Gary Mitchell “Lefty” Raymond, 63, of Beaver Dam, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2015, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born April 16, 1951, in McHenry to Herman L. “Cisco” and Natoma Phelps Raymond.
He was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and he worked as an underground coal miner for Peabody Coal Company. He was a member of the 1969 Ohio County Eagle Basketball State Runner-Up Team and was chosen as a member of the All-State Team.
He was preceded in death by his father, Herman “Cisco” Raymond; his son, Jeremy Raymond; his daughter, Autumn Mitchell Raymond; and one brother, Christopher Raymond.
Survivors include his mother, Natoma Phelps Raymond, of Beaver Dam; his son, Tylor Raymond; one daughter, Raquel White, of Beaver Dam; two brothers, Dwight Herman Raymond, of Beaver Dam, and Phillip Raymond, of Beaver Dam; seven sisters, Teresa Williams, of Beaver Dam, Angie Pearson, of Beaver Dam, Sheree Raymond, of Beaver Dam, Tonya Wilson, of Hartford, Alicia Lawrence, of Beaver Dam, Renita “Tootie” Hopkins, of Russellville, and Shannon Willis, of Kentucky Lake. Lefty was blessed with four grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam with Rev. Glenn Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in Render Memorial Cemetery in McHenry. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.
