Betty Lou (Cummings) Ward, 74, of Bloomington, Ind., passed into eternity on Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at IU Health/Bloomington Hospital in Bloomington, Ind., with family at her side.
Betty was born April 30, 1940, in Olaton, Ky., to the late Albert Landrum and Merle Dale (Crumes) Cummings.
She is survived by her husband, Carl Keith Ward, of Bloomington, Ind.; daughter, Melanie Denise Harrell Howard, of Whitesville, Ky.; son, Eric Keith Ward, of Lafayette, Ind.; daughter, Amy Darlene Ward Schmidt, of Madison, Ind.; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; five sisters; one brother; and many who had adopted her as their mother and grandmother. She loved and was loved by many.
Other than her parents, Betty was preceded in death by three brothers, infant Dwight, Freddie, and Phillip, and one sister, Jo Nell.
A graduate of Caneyville High School, Betty was an avid gardener who loved the blossoms of the Magnolia tree and Lilacs in the spring. She looked forward to summers in Florida, when she could watch the sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean.
All family and friends are invited to Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home in Caneyville, Ky., for visitation on Sunday, Jan. 11, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A reflection on her life by any and all present will immediately follow at 2 p.m.
A gathering of reflection and remembrance will be held in Bloomington, Ind., at a later date.
