Margaret Jean Newton, 82, of Owensboro, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Fordsville on Feb. 6, 1932, to the late William J. and Pearlie Mae Russell Rice.
She was a homemaker, a member of the Pentecostal faith and was a leader of the Cub Scouts in Evansville. Margaret made friends with everyone. She enjoyed reading detective magazines and loved to dance.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Glenda C. Simmons; and two brothers, William J. Rice Jr. and James D. Rice.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Charles Newton Sr.; two sons, Charles E. “Junie” Newton Jr. (Marsha Berry), of Sarasota, Fla., and Steve (Robin) Newton, of Henderson; a daughter, Charlotte (Doil) Stogner, of Reed; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Carlock; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Hall officiating. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and after 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
