Elbert E. “Labo” Southard, 80, of McHenry, passed away Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, at his home. He was born May 25, 1934, in Simmons, Ky., to the late Lewis E. and Winnie Kirtley Southard.
He was a coal miner retired from Peabody Coal Company and was also a carpenter. He was a member of McHenry Church of God of Prophecy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Winnie Southard; his twin brother, Delbert, his brother, Herbert and his brother, Conward.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Geraldine Camp Southard, of McHenry; two daughters, Vanessa Dukes and her husband, Jimmy, of McHenry and Veronica Schroader and her husband, Steve, of McHenry; two sons, Eric Southard, of McHenry and Aaron Southard, of McHenry; three grandchildren, Amanda Davis and her husband, Mark, of McHenry, Joshua Schroader and his wife, Sarah, of Horse Branch and Corben Southard, of McHenry; two great grandchildren, Cole Davis, of McHenry, and Reagan Schroader, of Horse Branch, and five sisters, Tyne Chapman, of Owensboro, Freda Maddox, of Owensboro, Gene Evans, of Owensboro, June Casey, of Beaver Dam, and Elwanda Nelson, of Owensboro.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam with Bro. Sonny “Earl” James officiating. Burial will be in Render Memorial Cemetery in McHenry. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.
