Juanita Mayfield Rhodes, 94, of Owensboro, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014, at her home. She was born Feb. 24, 1920, in Daviess County, Ky., to the late Clarence and Mary Sue Evans Boarman. She was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church. Mrs. Rhodes was friendly to everyone, enjoyed being with her family and playing the piano.
Aside from her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Jerome Mayfield, four sons, Donnie, Wayne, Leamon and Roger Mayfield and one daughter, Brenda Howard.
Surviving is her husband of 16 years, James Bernard Rhodes; children, Carl Mayfield of Whitesville, Betty Clark (Harold) of Owensboro, Charlotte Jones (Bill) of Louisville, Eddie Mayfield (Linda) of Dixon, Mo., Carolyn Elliott (Dr. Barney) of Owensboro, Lois Booker (Tony) of Owensboro, Shelby Mayfield (Dana) of Centertown, Ky., Denny Mayfield (Norma) of Louisville; 42 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren; and two favorite nephews, Larry Payne and Danny Payne.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Mother Catholic Church with Father Mike Clark officiating and Father Richard Powers co-celebrating and burial to follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Prayers will be said 5 p.m. Friday.
The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Hospice for their kindness and care provided to Mrs. Rhodes. They showed her so much love.
