Agnes Gwendolyn Swift, 86, of Caneyville, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014, at Springview Health and Rehab in Leitchfield. She was born on Oct. 2, 1927, in Grayson County, the daughter of the late Hobert and Caroline (Minton) Preston.
She was married to her late husband, Calvin Swift, for 63 years. Agnes was a member at the Rabbit Flat Church. She started working at Kane Manufacturing in 1952 and retired from IMS in the mid 90’s. She was known as the “thread girl”.
Other than her parents, Agnes is preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Swift; two brothers, L.D. Preston and Jimmy Preston and one sister, Doris Renfrow.
Agnes is survived by her daughter, Nowanda Mudd of Caneyville; her grandson, Wes Mudd (Chrissy) also of Caneyville; one great-grandson, Tommy Lee Mudd of Lexington; one great-granddaughter, Layla Mudd of Caneyville; and four sisters, Pauline Minton of Hartford, Cleo Bratcher of Flemingsburg, Nina Carroll of Leitchfield and Judy Fernander of Louisville.
Funeral services will be Monday, July 21, at 2 p.m. at the Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home in Caneyville. Bro. Kenny Carroll will be officiating. Burial will be in the Layman Memorial Cemetery.
