WendellWatkinsWendell H. Watkins, 80, of Owensboro, died unexpectedly at his home on June 13, 2014. He was born in Ohio County to the late Alton and Hattie Riggs Watkins. Wendell was an Army veteran and a graduate of Daviess County High School.He retired from Willamette Industries after 29 years of service. Wendell was also a realtor and auctioneer for 30 years. He was honored as a Kentucky Colonel and served as a Thruston Babe Ruth Baseball Coach for 25 years. Wendell was a member of Yellow Creek Baptist Church, Gideons International, Ensor Masonic Lodge and the Early Morning Coffee Drinkers Club (Hwy 60 branch). He enjoyed U.K. football and basketball, travelling, playing with grandkids and spending time with family. Wendell will be missed by many.He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Carol Jean Ireland Watkins; a daughter, Karen Feldhaus (Andy); sons, Ray Watkins (Stephanie) of Goshen, Kyle Watkins (Becky) of Benton; granddaughters, Georgia Watkins of Louisville, Rachel Watkins of Benton; grandsons, Riggs Watkins of Goshen, Ben Watkins of Benton, Drew Feldhaus of Owensboro and Jacob Watkins of Benton; sisters, Maxine Logsdon (Curtis), Glenida Winston (Bill), Freda Stevenson (Jack), Grace Long (Bill), Shirley Cossey (David); and many nieces and nephews.The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, at Yellow Creek Baptist Church with Dr. James Wedding officiating. Burial will be at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be on Monday from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and on Tuesday after 12 p.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International.
