Samuel J. Miller, 85, of Hartford, Ky., passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at Professional Care & Rehabilitation Center in Hartford. He was born Sept. 8, 1928, in Caneyville, Ky., to the late James Miller and Sadie Tomes Miller.
Mr. Miller was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II, retired from State Contracting & Stone Co. and Medussa Aggregates in Dundee, Ky., and Yager Materials in Owensboro, Ky., as a purchasing agent, was a member of Pine Knob United Baptist Church in Grayson County and was a Kentucky Colonel.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Ida Mae Campbell Miller of Hartford; one son, Carl Ray Miller (Lisa) of Hartford; two daughters, Patricia Heflin (Eddie) of Greensburg, Ind., and Martha Mauzy (Kevin) of Galesburg, Mich.; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 23, at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford, Ky., with Rev. Glenn Armstrong officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam, Ky., with full military honors by Wesley Phelps Honor Guard.
