VivianBrownVivian Brown, 81, of the Prentiss Community, went to be with the Lord on May 3, 2014. She passed away at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital after a brief illness. Vivian was born on Dec. 28, 1932, in Butler County, to the late L.W. and Daisy Phelps.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Ivan Phelps, Bill Phelps and Dewey “Pete” Phelps, and one sister, Wilma Crump.

Mrs. Brown was a faithful member of Beaver Dam United Methodist Church. She was a longtime member of the United Methodist women and the quilters group at Masonville United Methodist Church, and since 1991, a member of those same groups at Beaver Dam United Methodist Church. In her early adulthood she worked for 10 years at General Electric in Owensboro.

She was a loving, helpful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was always willing to reach out to everyone who needed her help.

Vivian is survived by her husband of 56 years, Dewey Brown of Prentiss; her son, Arnold Brown of Hobbs, N.M.; her daughter, Sherri White of Prentiss; three sisters, Palma Weyandt of Genoa, Ohio, Iva Toca of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and Jewel Johnson of Beaver Dam; two grandchildren, Jacob Ellis of Bowling Green and Sheena Embry of Morgantown and two great-grandchildren, Briceson Ellis and Blake Embry both of Prentiss.

A service celebrating Vivian’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, at Beaver Dam United Methodist Church with Rev. Ernie Carmicle officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery near Echols. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday at William L. Danks Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at Beaver Dam United Methodist Church.
