Walter Clayton Ford, 86, of Owensboro, passed away on Friday, April 11, 2014, at Signature Healthcare-Hillcrest. He was born on Jan. 13, 1928, in Ohio County, Ky., to the late Albert Edward and Dorotha Ellen Blanchard Ford.
He was retired from the Coca-Cola Company after 30 years and was a member of Maceo Baptist Church. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II having served in occupied Japan for a year and a member of the American Legion.
Mr. Ford loved his church very much and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and was an avid baseball fan. He had many friends and they will always remember his warm and caring smile.
Walter was also preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Ellen Dee Ford, on Oct. 29, 2013; his son-in-law, Larry Westerfield on Oct. 8, 2012; sister, Mildred Howell; brothers, Charles William Ford and Alfred Edward Ford; a half-sister, Clara Sue Brown; stepsisters, Judy Franz, Ruby Conder, and Ada Mae McCain; stepfather, Dudley Gray, and a stepbrother, Wilbur Gray.
Surviving are his son, Rev. W. Scott Ford and wife Patti of Maceo; his daughter, Sharon Gale Westerfield of Owensboro; three grandchildren, Jenny Westerfield Roberts and husband Brian of Philpot, Amanda Ford Sosh and husband Billy of Maceo, and David Ford of Manchester, Conn.; four great-grandchildren, Haley and Bennett Roberts and Caleb and Lacey Sosh; a stepbrother, Willis B. Gray of Modesto, Calif., and Larry Hill, with whom Mr. and Mrs. Ford were caregivers for 15 years.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, April 14, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial following in Elmwood Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday and after 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
