EsterBrownEsther “Bugs” Brown, 97, peacefully entered her rest Sunday, March 23, 2014, at Beaver Dam Nursing and Rehab. Bugs was born in Rockport, Ky., and graduated from Rockport High School.

She worked at Ken Rad in Owensboro, Westerfields Market in Beaver Dam and retired from the Dime Store in Beaver Dam, where she was known for buying a little extra candy or a bag of popcorn for the children. She loved to have friends and family at her home for meals that everyone looked forward to sharing. It was once said that if Bugs cooked it, don’t ask questions, just eat it. She was an avid gardener with beautiful flowers throughout her yard. Along with Brownie, she went dancing as often as possible all over Western Kentucky. Bugs was blessed with a long life filled with love and enjoyment. She was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and missed her church family very much when her health no longer allowed her to attend.

She was the daughter of Richard and Minnie Chancellor Barnard. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Glendon “Brownie” Brown. She was also preceded in death by her brother Jimmy Barnard, two sisters, Ruth Barnard Mabrey and Ada Barnard Raymond.

She is survived by her son and his wife, Layton and Fonda Brown; grandchildren, Jennifer Brown (Todd) Clark of Morgantown, Jeffrey Layton Brown of Winston Salem, N.C., Stephanie Walden (Paul) Schwake of Evansville, Christie Walden (Byron) Ford of Birmingham, Ala., Cate Walden (Brian) Spaetti of Evansville; four sisters, Martha James of Louisville, Electa Chinn of Owensboro, Ann Burden and Betty (L. H.) Harper both of Echols, special friends and neighbors Johnny and Sandra Young of Beaver Dam. She will also be missed by her great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam, with Rev. Glenn Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
