Shirlene Boone Thompson, 73, of Owensboro, Ky., died Thursday, March 20, 2014, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born Sept. 22, 1940, in Daviess County, Ky., to the late Harry and Margaret Boone.
She was of the Baptist faith and retired from Premium Allied Tool and volunteered at the hospital. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and American Veteran Auxiliary. She enjoyed karaoke, dancing and being with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. “Doodle Bug” Thompson in 2002 and a grandson, Matt Welsh in 2007.
Survivors include her daughters, Kay Thompson (David) of Ohio County, Sandy NeSmith (Clayton Mouser) of Dunedin, Fla., and Sherri NeSmith Mattingly (Tim) of Owensboro; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren (and one soon to be great-grandchild); brothers, Jay Boone (Agnes) of Reynolds Station, Jackie Boone (Lydie) of Owensboro and Ricky Boone (Sharon) of Beaver Dam; two sisters, Darlene Goetz (George) of Philpot, and Sheila Tichenor (Joel Hayden) of Owensboro.
Services are 6 p.m. Sunday, March 23, at the Chapel of James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro. Private burial is in Greenbrier Cemetery in Utica, Ky. Visitation is from 12 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
