Mr. Samuel Howard Patterson, 93, of Beaver Dam, went home to be with Jesus on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 13, 2014, at Beaver Dam Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born June 16, 1920, at Cherry Hill in Muhlenberg County to the late Luther and Betty Brown Patterson.
He was a World War II Veteran of the United States Army where he served in the South Pacific for 38 months. He was a beloved member, Deacon and Sunday School Teacher at Slaty Creek Baptist Church, a member Centertown Masonic Lodge #714 F&AM, a member of the United Mine Workers of America and was past president and member of the Ostomy Society in Owensboro. He was a retired welder and mechanic with Peabody Coal Company’s Ken Surface Mine and a Kentucky Colonel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Patterson and Betty Brown Patterson, his wife of 59 years, Lucille Stenberg Patterson, five siblings, Marie Hall of Xenia, Ohio, Curtis Heflin of Evansville, Ind., Betty Jaggers of Connecticut, Anzonetti Patterson of Cherry Hill, Ky., and Martina Sue Patterson of Cherry Hill.
Survivors include his daughter, Carol Cox and son-in-law, Wendell C. Cox of Mt. Juliet, Tenn.; two granddaughters, Sandy Prindable and husband Kevin of Wilmington, N.C., and Debbie Morton and husband Cary of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; four great-grandsons, Sam and Drew Morton of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Alec and Eli Prindable of Wilmington, N.C.; one great-granddaughter, Cari-Beth Morton of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and one sister, Ethel Mae Ford of McHenry.
Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam with Rev. Wendell Romans officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam with Military Honors performed by Pfc. Wesley Phelps Ohio County Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 A.M. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Masonic Rights Service will be held Friday at 7 p.m.
