Shirley Jean Jennings Berkley, 75, of Olaton, Ky., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born Oct. 8, 1938, in Cleaton, Ky. to the late Rev. James P. Johnson and Mable Odel Stinnett Johnson.
Mrs. Berkley was a homemaker and a member of Horse Branch Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Huey Ross Jennings on Aug. 30, 1995; second husband William “Bill” Berkley on Nov. 12, 2012, and one great-grandson, Bobby Ray Carter IV on Dec. 9, 2011.
Survivors include, one son, Steven (Kandie) Jennings of Monroe, Mich; one daughter, Gayle (Tom) Yewell of Owensboro, Ky.; two stepsons, Ed Berkley (Christe Lancaster) of Henderson and Kenny (Nancy) Berkley of Griffith, Ind.; one stepdaughter, Dorinda Vay Berkley of Whiting, Ind.; four grandchildren, Emily Yewell, Erica (Bob) Carter, Cole Jennings and Alexa Jennings; three stepgrandchildren, Tara Hastings, Anthony Berkley and Jessica Stenke; two great-grandchildren, Leah Michelle Carter and Bentley Ray Carter; three brothers, Don (Joyce) Johnson of Owensboro, Ky., Wilbur (Maxine) Johnson of Owensboro, KY., and Rev. James (Gloria) Johnson of Bowling Green, Ky., and one sister Gloria (Rodney) Bowlds of Pleasant Ridge, Ky.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at the Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford, Ky., with Rev. Earnest Whitely, Rev. Carolyn Erwin and Rev. James Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Burial will follow in Free Union Cemetery in Sacramento, Ky.
