EugenePhelpsEugene Phelps, 77, of Hartford, passed away Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born May 28, 1936, in Ohio County, Ky., to the late Lonnie Phelps Sr. and Bernice Ward Phelps.

He was a member of Longview General Baptist Church where he was a Deacon since 1959. He was a retired coal miner from Peabody Coal Company.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Monnie Taylor Phelps; two daughters, Tammy Jo Phelps and Paula Sue Burton; one son, Allen Eugene Phelps and three sisters, Ann Bullock, Deloris Geary and Louise Decker.

Survivors include his wife, Sammye White Phelps of Hartford; two daughters, Kim (Robert) Baize of Beaver Dam and Lisa (Rickie) Butler of Cromwell; one step-son, Allen Liggett of Poole, Ky.; three step-daughters, Leah (Ed) Szablinski of Tucson, Ariz., Loretta (Ernest) Duncan of Henderson and Melody (Joey) Ruffin of Evansville, Ind.; four brothers, Lonnie (JoAnna) Phelps, Jr. of Pleasant Ridge, J.C. (Janet) Phelps of Olaton, John (JoAnn) Phelps of Owensboro and Walter (Bonnie) Phelps of Owensboro; two sisters, Pauline Daugherty of Florida and Sudie (Bourbon) Pendley of Morgantown; four grandchildren, Zachary S. Baize, Samuel E. Burton, Lany F. Baize and Taylor A. Butler, seven step-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren.

 Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at Longview General Baptist Church in Beaver Dam with Rev. Jay Raymond officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at William L. Danks Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at Longview General Baptist Church.
