J.C. Eskridge, 88, of Beaver Dam passed away Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at his home. He was born on Sept. 6, 1925, in Sunnydale, Ky., to the late Emil and Effie Shown Eskridge.
Mr. Eskridge was part owner and manager of Farmer’s Supply of Ohio County for 35 years, worked as supervisor for the Ohio County Road Department for 17 years and was Deputy Judge Executive for Ohio County for 13 years. He was a veteran of WWII where he served in the U.S. Army. In 1942 Mr. Eskridge joined the Beaver Dam Baptist Church and later became a teacher of the adult men’s Fellowship Sunday school class and was also Deacon Emeritus. He was also an Honorary Kentucky Colonel.
He was preceded in death by four brothers E.C., Conard, Jack and Filbert Eskridge.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Shirley Spinks Eskridge of Beaver Dam; one son, Joe Eskridge M.D. (Judy) of Seattle, Wash.; one daughter Kimberlie Eskridge of Beaver Dam; three grandchildren, Jay Parker Eskridge, Drew Eskridge Lo (Lam V.) and William G. Eskridge and one sister, Lena Belle Rule of Chicago.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford, Ky., with Rev. Glenn Armstrong and Rev. Joel Wayne officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral at the funeral home. There will be a private burial in Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam, KY.
