RevWalterMitchellRev. Walter F. Mitchell, 93, of Centertown, died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at Ohio County Hospital. He was born in Rockport to the late James Francis and Jeanette Main Mitchell.

He was a retired United Methodist Church Minister who also worked as a farmer, carpenter, meat cutter and an electrician. He was a member of Goshen United Methodist Church.  Mr. Mitchell was a disabled veteran after serving in the U.S. Army during WWII where he received the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.  He was preceded in death by three sons, Alex Ezra Mitchell, Walter David Mitchell and James Francis Mitchell II; three brothers, Charles K. Mitchell, James Thomas Mitchell and Joseph Allen Mitchell and three sisters, Lena Lucille Mitchell, Nora Margaret Mitchell and Rena Jeanette Mattlock.

Survivors include a son, Alton C. Mitchell; his stepchildren, Margaret Driskill, John Wayne Culver, Tommie Ann Saragas and Mindy Lynn Maldonado; two sisters, Ada Mae Beasley and Mary Edith Hill; grandchildren, Michelle Mitchell (Brian) Dukes, James Francis Mitchell III, Alex Mitchell, Sarrah Davison, Brittany, Amanda and Jennifer Driskill, Courtney and Desiree Jones, Ty and Andi Saragas, John Paul and Jacob Culver; great-grandchildren, Mekenna and Abby Dukes, James Francis Mitchell IV, Maggi Ann, Anthony and Peyton Davison, Landon and Noah Akers and Delainey Huff.

Services are 3 p.m. Friday at Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Beaver Dam with Bro. Mike Taylor officiating.  Burial will be in Goshen Cemetery near Beaver Dam.  Military honors will be presented by Ohio County Honor Guard.  Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday and from 1 p.m. until 3p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
