PaulBelcherVernie “Paul” Belcher, 87,  of Owensboro, Ky., passed away Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, at his residence. Mr. Belcher was born Dec. 30, 1925, in Butler County, to the late Herschel Belcher and Florence Applin Belcher.

He was a Service Foreman at Atmos Gas for 32 years and a WWII Navy Veteran. He was presented with the Green River Chapter NSDAR Veteran of the year in 2008. He was a member of The American Legion and Parrish Avenue Baptist Church.

His hobbies included being a vendor at Flea markets, refinishing furniture and watching UK. His favorite thing was the love of his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Joline Belcher and siblings, Glen Belcher, Leroy Belcher, Lois Davison, Dorsie Belcher, Dean Martin, Ada Katherine Belcher and Tommy Belcher.

Mr. Belcher is survived two daughters: Paula Smith Perry of Owensboro, Donna Paulsen and husband Lance of Calhoun, Ky.; grandchildren, Mike Smith and wife Gina of Owensboro, Lisa Paulsen of Auburn, Ala., Lee Paulsen of Calhoun, Ky.; two great-grandchildren, McKenzie Smith and Courtney Fogle both of Owensboro; two sisters Ina Brockman and husband Joe of Louisville and Joyce Garrison of Milwaukee, Wisc.; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and many cousins.

Funeral Service will be held at Smith Funeral Home, Friday, Aug. 16, at 1 p.m. with Bro: Wayne Stewart officiating. Military Honors will be presented by the Am-Vets. Burial will follow in the Sandy Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 15, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. until time of service at Smith Funeral Home.
