Doris Daniel Courtney, 83, of Dundee, Ky., died Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born May 31, 1930, in Dundee to the late Henry McDowell Daniel and Elizabeth Davidson Daniel.
She was a member of Dundee United Methodist Church and formerly employed by GE in Owensboro. She was a graduate of Dundee High School and attended Bowling Green Business College and was an Army wife for 22 years. She loved her family, brothers and sisters and was quick to help when there was a need.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sgt. Earnest Lee Courtney on March 6, 1982; one son, Albert Lee Courtney on Feb. 16, 1993; one sister, Marjorie Elizabeth Probus on May 30, 2010; one sister-in-law, Brenda Hazel Daniel on October 21, 2010; and two brother-in-laws, William K. Probus on July 31, 2011 and Edward F. “Ed” McDaniel on April 27, 2010.
Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Ann “Pat” Courtney of Smith Grove, Ky., Deborah Lee “Debbie” Courtney of Dundee, Elaine Courtney Blanton (Clyde Wilkes) of Madisonville; three brothers, Sam Daniel of Moreno Valley, Calif., Henry Daniel (Louise) of Dundee and Gene Daniel (Karen) of Dundee; one sister, Sue McDaniel of Dundee; two grandchildren, Courtney Nicole Blanton and Bradley Todd Blanton both of Madisonville and four great-grandsons, Kenton Jimenz, Christopher Jimenz, Preston Lee Jimenz, and Ashton Cole Whitaker all of Madisonville and Carson Layn Hayes of Dixon, Ky. She also has a host of nieces and nephews as well as a special friend and caretaker Melissa McIntyre.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, June 23, at 2 p.m. at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford with Bro. Kevin Campbell officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 4 p.m. to 8 pm and Sunday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Axton Cemetery in Olaton, Ky.
