Beverly Ann Smith-Strauss, 72, of Hartford, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2013, at her residence. She was born on Dec. 16, 1940, in Chicago, Ill., to the late Richard Hughes and Mattie Lucille Lowery Hughes.
She was a member of Mount Moriah Church in Ohio County and enjoyed singing and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward Monroe Smith and two sisters, Patty King and Martha Hughes.
Survivors include her husband Henry Strauss, Jr.; four sons, Richard T. (Lisa) Smith, Eric G. (Ashley) Smith, Edward M. (Melanie) Smith II, and Matt (Amanda) Strauss; two daughters, Lou Ann (Tommy) Phelps and Sandra (Wayne) Gillim; 21 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ricky (Deadra) Hughes and David (Mary) Hughes; three sisters, Sylvia (Don) Ringstrom, Alice (Rex) Poppelwell and Betty Cobb and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Thursday, May 2, at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home with Bro. Tim Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Patterson Cemetery in Hartford. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
