Robert Ray Herron, 82, of Beaver Dam, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2013, at his residence. He was born Nov. 25, 1930, to the late Clarence James and Marie Cates Herron in Providence, Ky.
He was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church where he was the long time handyman and he was a coal miner for Peabody Coal Company.
Beside his parents he was preceded in death by his step-son, Randy Ashby and one step-grandson, Chris Ashby.
Survivors include his wife, Opal Herron of Beaver Dam; one son Jeffrey (Becky) Herron of Beaver Dam and one daughter, Memori Herron Reynolds of Bowling Green; three step-children, Kevin (Shannon) Ashby of Hartford, Doug (Mindy) Ashby of Jacksonville, Fla., and Terri Ashby of Owensboro; two brothers, Norman Herron of Madisonville, Dudley Herron of West Lafayette, Ind.; one sister, Barbara Matzigkeit of Evansville and one step brother, Garce Edwards of Provindence. Mr. Herron was blessed with five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, and several step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, at Beaver Dam Baptist Church in Beaver Dam, with Rev. Glenn Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam and from 9 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the church.
