Imogene Snodgrass Ferguson, 88, of Beaver Dam, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Dogwood Retreat in Hartford. She was born March 14, 1925, in Centertown to the late Robert and Ava Daugherty Snodgrass.
She graduated from Centertown High School. During World War II, she worked in a defense factory in Detroit. Upon return to Centertown, she taught third grade for several years and attended Western Kentucky State Teachers College prior to her marriage in 1949. After raising her children during their early years, she worked in the Ohio County School System as a substitute teacher at Beaver Dam High School, as a teacher aide at Ohio County High School and as a Head Start teacher at Horse Branch Elementary. After leaving the school system she began working at Beaver Dam Deposit Bank and retired from there after several years.
God, Family and Friends were very important to her. During her retirement years, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and watching them in various sports. She also enjoyed traveling with friends on tours in the U.S., Canada and Europe.
She was a member of Centertown Baptist Church for 12 years and then a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church for 63 years. At Beaver Dam Baptist Church she served as a Sunday school teacher, a GA Leader, WMU member and was a member of the adult choir. She was also a member of the Beaver Dam Women’s Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Marvin Ferguson and her son, Michael Brent Ferguson in 2000.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Kay Newcom and son-in-law Robert Joseph Newcom of Beaver Dam; grandson, Jeremy Joseph Newcom and wife Kim of Owensboro; granddaughter, Amanda Kay Hoskins and husband Michael of Beaver Dam; one sister, Chalna Smaltz and husband Hugh of Hartford; a brother Robert Dois Snodgrass and wife Paige of Beaver Dam, daughter-in-law, Janet Zachary of Owensboro; five great-grandchildren, Jay, Kenlee and Josie Newcom of Owensboro and Brett and Kate Hoskins of Beaver Dam and many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, at Beaver Dam Baptist Church with Dr. Glenn Armstrong and Rev. Joel Wayne officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam and 9 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at Beaver Dam Baptist Church.
