Wendell T. Baxley, 92, passed away March 16, 2013, at the Ohio County Hospital. He was the son of the late Cleve and Vicy Mae Tilford Baxley and was born Feb. 10, 1921, in the Round Hill Community of Hartford.
He served in the Army-Air Force during World War II. He was a retired carpenter who worked out of Carpenter’s Local 599 in Hammond, Ind. He was a member of the Hartford Christian Church, Hartford Masonic Lodge #675 and the American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, reading and a good meal.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers; James and Wilbur Baxley; three sisters; Gladys Moore, Louise Hines and Margie Gish. He was also preceded in death by one step grandson, Samuel Snell.
He is survived by daughter, Alice St.Clair and husband Coy; sons, Charles Dennis Baxley and wife Brenda and Chris Baxley all of Hartford. He is also survived by one sister, Maureen Gray of Hartford and one brother, Guy Baxley of Shelbyville. He had five grandchildren; Coy III and Collin St.Clair, Brian and Shaun Baxley and Kimberly Mitchell, four great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. He was married for 45 years to Jeanette Westerfield Baxley.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m., March 20, 2013, at Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial will follow in Sunnydale Cemetery in Ohio County. Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Ohio County, 1211 Old Main Street in Hartford, Ky 42347. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
