Lyle Wayne Abney, 75, of Centertown, Ky., died Friday, March 1, 2013, at Beaver Dam Nursing and Rehab Center in Beaver Dam, Ky.. He was born Aug. 14, 1937, in Jericho, Ky., to the late Vernon Cleveland Abney and Virginia Marie Farmer Abney.
Mr. Abney retired from the Ohio County Board of Education as a bus driver and had also been employed by Allied Barton Security at Armstrong Mines. He was of the Baptist faith, a member of the Centertown Masonic Lodge #714 and the Stanley Chapter #253 of the Eastern Star. He is preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Gillespie.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Belvarine Renfrow Abney of Centertown; two sons, Jeff Abney (Kim) of Centertown and Gene Abney (Lula) of Owensboro, Ky.; three daughters, Sally Armstrong of San Jose, Calif.; Holly Abney of Centertown and Janet Miles of Newburgh, Ind.; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Vernon Abney (Barbara) and Steven Abney both of Campbellsburg, Ky., Rodney Abney (Becci) of Rockford, Ill., and two sisters, Edna Walters of Lanesville, Ind., and Mary Bloyd (John) of Vine Grove, Ky..
Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, March 6, at 1 p.m. at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford, Ky. Visitation will Tuesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mt. Herman Cemetery.
