Nolen Selden Smiley, 86, of Greenville, Ky., passed away on Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. He was born in McLean County on May 8, 1926, to the late Samuel Smiley and Betty Sutherlin Smiley Kirk.
He was a veteran of World War II in the U. S. Army and he also served as a Chaplin for the Nomad Chapter #52 of Cincinnati, Ohio. Mr. Smiley was also a Kentucky Colonel and spent his life as a self-employed oil field worker. He was a member and deacon of the Collier Springs General Baptist Church in Todd County.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Bobbie Jean Ambrose Smiley of Greenville; one son, Nolen Steven Smiley (Becky) of McHenry; one daughter, Shelda Smiley Young (Ronnie) of Greenville; three grandchildren, Steven Wayne Smiley, Timothy Mark Smiley (Becky), and Shane Young (Jordan); four great-grandchildren; two brothers, A. J. Smiley, Jr. of Owensboro and Norris Smiley of Hartford; and two sisters, Delona Smiley Fulkerson of Echols and Phyllis Kirk Boone of Pleasant Ridge.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at the Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford, with Bro. David Blake officiating. Burial will be in Bells Run Baptist Church Cemetery in Ohio County. Visitation with the family will be from 11 a.m until the time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home.
