James Vernon Baker, 97 of Hartford, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at Ohio County Hospital. He was born Sept. 10, 1915, in Ohio County to the late Floyd and Rosalie Singleton Baker.
He attended Longview General Baptist Church in Beaver Dam and worked in construction as a brick layer. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gracie Christine Morris Baker as well as seven brothers and a granddaughter, Lori Cecil.
He is survived by his son, James (Becky) Baker of Philpot, four daughters, Ruby L. Givens of Beaver Dam, Bobbie Porter of Hartford, Betty Marsh of Owensboro and Margaret (Glenn) Kindley of Broken Arrow, Okla., 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam with Rev. Jay Raymond Officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the funeral home. Military rights will be provided by Wesley Phelps Honor Guard.
