Lexie Utley, Jr., 84, of Hartford, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at Ohio County Hospital. Mr. Utley was born Jan. 27, 1928, in Dawson Springs, Ky., to the late Lexie Roland Utley and Pearl Dean Gillim Utley.
He was of the Baptist faith and served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He was a retired farmer, former owner of International Harvester Dealership and Utley’s Used Cars, former Chief of Police of Beaver Dam and former Deputy Sheriff of Ohio County. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and loved all his dogs, especially Red. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Angie Hudson in 1988.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Utley Hudson and her husband, Bill, of Henderson, Ky.; a grandson, Dr. William Hudson and his wife, Becky, of Henderson; three great-grandchildren, Emily, Meg and Joe Hudson all of Henderson; a brother, Reginald Utley and his wife, Ruth, of Hartford; a sister, Regina Utley Hudson, of Hartford and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, Dec. 17, at 2:00 p.m. at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford, with Rev. Glenn Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow in Beulah Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Hartford with full military honors presented by Wesley C. Phelps Honor Guard.
Visitation will be Sunday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and again Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
