Mary Gwendolyn Heflin, 87, of Russellville, formerly of Beaver Dam, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at Logan Memorial Hospital. She was born Dec. 17, 1924, in Caneyville to the late Dr. Wilbur H. and Edna Bond Washburn.
She was a music teacher in the Ohio County School System. She was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of OES Grace Chapter, was a charter member and the first president of the Pi Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, past president of Beresford County, Fla., Ladies Auxiliary Yacht Club and was a member of Gospel Tabernacle in Russellville.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold D. Heflin.
She is survived by her son, Edward “Eddie” Heflin and wife Pat of Greensburg, Ind.; two daughters, Mary Ann Sumner and husband Steve of Russellville and Marsha Rafferty of Russellville, ten grandchildren, Bryan Rafferty, Shannon Rafferty, Michael Sumner and wife Jodi, Shellie Combs and husband Rick, Adam Heflin and wife Katie, Paul Rafferty and wife Jaime, Joel Sumner and wife Mary, Sara Bila and husband Chris, Daniel Heflin, Matthew Sumner and wife Natalie and twenty great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam with Rev. Craig D. Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
