Paul Himes, 72, of Beaver Dam, Ky., died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born on Sept. 11, 1940, in Hartford, Ky., to the late Orville Himes and Dottie Himes.

Paul retired from IBEW Local 1701 after 45 years of service as an electrician. He was a veteran of the United States Army from Jan. 22, 1957, to Jan. 21, 1963, and of the Christian faith. He was a member of VFW Post 5766, American Legion Post 55, Wesley C. Phelps Honor Guard, AMVETS Post 117 and a Kentucky Colonel.

He was preceded in death by his son Dennis Paul Himes on August 7, 1967, his father, Orville Himes, on Aug. 20, 2005, and his mother, Dottie Himes, on March 6, 2006.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Shirley E. Hopper Himes of Beaver Dam; one son, Tony Himes and his wife Jeannie of Owensboro; one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Himes of Beaver Dam; three grandchildren, April Firestone and her husband Adam, Sara Tinsley and her husband Luke and Jessica Smith; three great-grandchildren, Braxton Tinsley, Jackson Firestone and Lincoln Firestone; three brothers, Lynn L. Himes and his wife Elaine of Hartford, Roger Himes and his wife Patricia of Hartford and George Himes and his wife Pamela of Owensboro and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24, at the Chapel of Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home with Mr. Ethan Eadens and Bro. Rodney Albin officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery with full military honors by Wesley C. Phelps Honor Guard. Visitation will be on Friday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
