Arvis Woodroe Howard

Arvis Woodroe Howard, 68, of Beaver Dam, passed away Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at Greenview Regional Hospital in Bowling Green. He was born in Sandy Hook, Ky., on Oct. 10, 1943, to “Clyde” Woodroe Howard and Ina “Inez” Click Howard.

Mr. Howard worked 30 years in the surface mining industry. He worked for Pyramid Mining, Addwest Mining, Lanham Mining and United Minerals. He was known by the handles “Little Tool” and “White Owl.” He enjoyed spending time and playing with his grandchildren and great-grandson. He also enjoyed tinkering in his garage on his tractors and 1972 Antique Volkswagen “Bug,” as well as woodworking and gardening. During his life he expressed love and admiration for his grandpaw Click.

Mr. Howard is preceded in death by his father “Clyde” Woodroe Howard in 1988.

Survivors include his high school sweetheart, loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Vonda “Shirl” Horton Howard; one son, Woodroe Christon Howard (Brandy) of Morgantown, Ky.; two daughters, Jamie Ann Howard Luttrell (Dale) of Hartford, MaDonna Mae Howard West (Ronnie) of Georgetown, Ky.; nine grandchildren, Jonathan Arvis Nance (RaeAnn) of Bowling Green, Ky., Daniel Ronnie West (Megan) of Georgetown, Ky., Lacee Michele Willoughby of Hartford, Robert Dale Luttrell (Hannah) of Pensacola, Fla., Nicholas Ethan West of Georgetown, Jessica MacKenzie Luttrell of Owensboro, Allison Bailey West of Georgetown, Kentin Riley Howard of Morgantown and Lucy Mae Howard of Morgantown; one great-grandson, Nathanael Cade Willoughby; mother, Ina “Inez” Click Howard of Kentucky, two brothers, Hysell “Jack” Howard (Mary Ann) of Morehead and Donald G. Howard of Kettering, Ohio; five sisters, Aythel A. Harper (John) of Hubert, N.C., Wanda Jean Bang of Sandy Hook, Pauline Howard of Marion, Ohio, Sandra S. Howard of Sandy Hook and Billie Jo Greenhill of Sandy Hook and other relatives, Juanita Mitchell of Ohio, Fred Click of Ohio, Nick and Charlene Lytle of Kentucky, Travis and Dorothy Yates of Florida, James Russell Horton of Florida, Danny and Libby Hill of Florida, and Chuck and Darlene Hill of Kentucky.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday and from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Friday at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford. Mr. Howard requested private graveside services to be held for his wife, children and grandchildren at Sunnyside Cemetery in  Beaver Dam.
