Fay Montez Ward Whittaker, 93, of 312 Frederica Street in Hartford, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Beaver Dam. She was born in the No Creek community in Ohio County on Nov. 24, 1918, to the late Richard Ward and Ethel Mae Ashby Ward.
Mrs. Whittaker retired as a cook from Bob’s IGA in Hartford, she attended the Hartford Baptist Church, and was a member of the Bennett’s Homemaker Club, a member of the Hartford Womans Club, and a member of the Woodman of The World Lodge #319 in Heflin, Ky.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Austin C. Whittaker in 1994; two sons, Lyle C. Whittaker in 1963 and Stanley Austin Whittaker in 1968; one grandson, Stanley Lynn Whittaker in 1968 and one grandson-in-law Dennis Chinn in 1996.
She is survived by one daughter, Shirley Ann Whittaker Burden and her husband Norman Ray Burden of Beaver Dam; one daughter-in-law, Patsy Poole Whittaker White and her husband Jim of Sebring, Fla.; four grandchildren, Richard Whittaker and his wife Terri, Teresa Chinn, Norman Scott Burden, and Lesa Cooper and her husband Bro. Bob; twelve great-grandchildren, Lori Voyles, Emily Stanley and her husband Jared, Stanley Whittaker, Kristen Hart and her husband Chad, Courtney Chinn, Leslie Chinn, Aaron Burden, Andrew Burden, Alex Burden, Jacob Cooper, Kelly Underwood and her husband Allen and Emily Cooper and five great-great-granddaughters.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 2, at the Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford with Bro. Bob Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Hartford. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday and from 9 a.m. until the time of services on Sunday at the funeral home.
