Joe Riley Tichenor, 73, of 33 McCormick Trail, Hartford, Ky., passed away Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012, at the Ohio County Hospital in Hartford. He was born Dec. 22, 1938, in Ohio County, Ky., to the late W. C. “Gabe” Tichenor and Myrtle Riley Tichenor.
He was a member of the Hartford Christian Church. Mr. Tichenor retired from Peabody Coal Company as a mechanic at Riverview and Austin Surface Mines, he was the former co-owner of Sheffield Service Station, an avid University of Kentucky Wildcat fan and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Tichenor Wallace and a brother, W. C. “Jr.” Tichenor.
Survivors include his wife, Paula Goodwin Tichenor of Hartford; one son, Michael Joe Tichenor and his wife Shelly both of Beaver Dam; one daughter, Sheila Tichenor Humphrey of Hartford; son-in-law Eddie Humphrey of Hartford; six grandchildren, Leesa Ann Humphrey, Paul Edward Humphrey and his wife Carley, Sarah Tichenor Williams and her husband Derrick, Chad Riley Tichenor, Kyle Martin and Maci Michele Tichenor; six great-grandchildren; Ashton Humphrey, Kaleb Humphrey, Jaydelyn Tichenor, Chase Tichenor, River Tichenor, and Will Humphrey; one brother, Jimmy Don Tichenor and his wife Melba both of Hartford; two sisters, Faye Tichenor Roades and her husband Dusty both of New Smyrna, Fla., and Joyce Tichenor Broyles and her husband Bobby both of Hartford; two sister-in-laws Mary Jo Dortch and her husband Judge Ronnie Dortch both of Hartford and Patti Ann Arnold and her husband Eddie both of Greenville, Ky.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday Aug. 15, at the Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford with Bro. Tony St.Clair officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Hartford. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:00 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home, Hartford.
