Donald Ray “Donnie” Brigance, 69, of Centertown, passed away Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at Ohio County Hospital. He was born March 2, 1943 in Hammond, Ind., to the late Elgan and Maybell Durham Brigance.
He was a member of Smallhouse Baptist Church in the Kronos community of Centertown and was a coal miner for Peabody Coal Company.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Betty Sue James Brigance of Centertown; one son, James Calvin Smith III of Centertown; two daughters, Donita Brigance of Beaver Dam and Dana Michelle (Shelby) Mayfield of Kronos; two sisters, Diana (Johnny) Cooper of Hartford and Linda (Keith) Whitten of Hartford; six grandchildren, Donnie Brigance, John Brigance, Sarah Stout, Jasmine Nicole Reed, Rhiannon Dawn Hardy and Jay Smith and one great-grandchild, Andrew James.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, at Smallhouse Baptist Church in Kronos with Bro. Rossie Stewart officiating. Burial will be in Smallhouse Cemetery in the Kronos community of Centertown. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday at William L. Danks Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at Smallhouse Baptist Church.
