Carolyn Cole Edwards, 74, of Louisville, was reunited with her husband and daughter in Heaven on Friday afternoon, July 13, 2012 at Norton Hospital Downtown.

Born in Fordsville, Ky., the former Carolyn Cole was a long-term iconic member of the Executive Committees of the Jefferson County Republican party and the Republican Party of Kentucky. Carolyn served in multiple leadership capacities within the party. She was the founder and president of Republican Woman of Southeast Jefferson County; the Third District Governor of the Kentucky Federation of Republican Woman; the President of South Jefferson Republican Club; Vice Chair of the Jefferson County Republican Party; she served on the county executive committee for over 25 years and on the state executive committee for eight.

She was the recipient of the John Sherman Cooper Award for campaign service in 1992, the Henry Heyburn Award for lifetime service in 1998, and was the recipient of the Betty Landiss Holmes Award for party service and community involvement in 2009. She was a Delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1992 for President George H.W. Bush and was the member of the US Electoral College for the Third District of Kentucky for President George W. Bush in 2004. She was a tireless campaign volunteer in countless campaigns from local legislative races to U.S. Senate and Presidential races.


As a member of Southeast Christian she was involved with the Peace Maker and Agape Classes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Earl Edwards and her daughter Sheila Richards. She is survived by her daughter Leila Abbott; her son in law Judge Ken Abbott; two brothers Norman Ray and Donald Cole; a sister Brenda Sharpe; granddaughters Kelsey and Holly and her great-grandson Boone. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.


Her Funeral Service will be 11 am Tuesday July 17, 2012 at Owen Funeral Home-Jeffersontown 9318 Taylorsville Rd. Burial will be at Fordsville Cemetery (KY)
. Visitation will be Monday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
