Calvin Luther Leisure, Sr., 88, of Beaver Dam, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at his residence. He was born May 15, 1923, in Cool Springs, Ky., to the late Daniel and Rosa Baize Leisure.
He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II and a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Calvin was a farmer and a rural mail carrier and was a member of Independence Baptist Church in McHenry. He was a member of the McHenry Masonic Lodge #800 F&AM, Grace #37 OES, a former magistrate, former member of the Ohio County Hospital Board and was active in many Veteran’s affairs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Rosa Baize Leisure, his first wife, Opal Mae Milam Leisure and his son, Milton Leisure.
He is survived by his wife, Colleen Burris Hicks Leisure of Beaver Dam; two sons, Calvin L. (Jan) Leisure, Jr., of Rockport and Ricky Dale (Norma) Leisure of McHenry; three daughters, Virginia Louise Ross of Bowling Green, Jean Ellen Davis of Georgia and Carla Mae (Phillip) Taylor of Hartford; one step son, Robert Hicks of Beaver Dam; four step daughters, Cynthia (Ron) Woodrum of Beaver Dam, Rebecca (Bill) Quig of Beaver Dam, Virginia (Daymond) Geary of Juneau, Alaska, and Nancy Hicks of Beaver Dam, as well as several grandchildren, step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 31, at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam with Rev. Wesley O. Hanson officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Saturday with Masonic Rights Services held at 7 p.m. Friday at the Funeral Home.
