Mary Ann Iglehart Carr

Mary Ann Iglehart Carr, 83, of Hartford, passed away Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012.

Mrs. Carr was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico to the late L. S. Iglehart and Mary Carson Iglehart, long time Ohio County residents and former owners of Carson & Company Dry Goods. She was a member of Hartford United Methodist Church. She was the founder and first president of the original Ohio County Humane Society and instrumental in construction of the animal shelter.

She bred  and showed champion Cocker Spaniels and was a long time dispatcher to the Ohio County Sheriff  Office and later the 911 system. She worked as a deputy sheriff, deputy jailer and was the only woman to be on the Hartford Police Department.

She was preceded in death by her  husband, Edward “Eddie” Carr in 1998 and a son-in-law Kenneth D. Richeson in 1997.

Surviving are a daughter, Barbara Ann Carr Richeson of Louisville; two grandsons, Benjamin Richeson (Noel) both of Seattle, Wa., and Jonathan Richeson (Rose) both of Washington, D.C., and one great-grandson, Riley Richeson of Washington, D.C.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford with Bro. Bob Clements officiating. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until time of services Friday. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Hartford.
