BEAVER DAM, Ky. — Ronald Bass, 76, of Beaver Dam, (formerly of Boonville, Indiana) passed away on Sept. 24, 2024, at Signature Healthcare of Hartford, Kentucky, after a brief illness. Ron was born on July 24, 1948, in Pike County, Indiana.

Ron is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years Shirley (Myers). Ron and Shirley were lifelong residents of Boonville, Indiana until 2015 when they both retired and moved to Beaver Dam, Kentucky to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Ron retired from Peabody Coal/Lynnville Mine in 1999 where he was a diesel mechanic and shovel operator. Ron went on to a second career as a Branch Manager for Penske Truck Leasing, retiring from there in 2015.

Ron was known by all as a great man of faith. He was a member of Pathway Baptist Church in Beaver Dam where he taught Sunday school and sometimes led services. He loved to study God’s word and has left us with volumes and volumes of notes and lessons he has written over the years. He truly loved the Lord and loved serving. He was a wise soul and his guidance and love will be greatly missed by his family and those who knew him. Second only to his love of the Lord was his love for his wife and family. Ron always put the needs of others ahead of his own in every situation and to make sure his family was safe, loved, and cared for.

Ron was preceded in death by his father, Harold; son, Jeffrey; brother, Larry; sister, Jacqueline; and granddaughter, Lauren Gerkins Marr.

In addition to his wife, Shirley, Ron is also survived by daughters, Sheila (Kyle) Gerkins, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Amanda (Justin) Shaffer, of Hartford; grandchildren, Ben Gerkins, of Denton, Texas, Lucas Coomer, Amelia, Kaylee, and Logan Shaffer, of Hartford; and great-grandson, Jackson Marr, of Nicholasville, Kentucky; his mother, June Bass; brother, Terry Bass; sister, Jena Bass; and sister-in-law, Martha Bass also survive.

The family would like to thank the staff at Signature Healthcare in Hartford for the compassionate care shown to Ron and to the family over the last two months.

Services will be 3 p.m. Thursday Sept. 26, at Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Beaver Dam with Bro. Jeremy Robinson and Bro. Rob Allen officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until funeral time on Thursday at the funeral home. A graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday Sept. 27, at Maple Grove Cemetery in Boonville, Indiana.
