OWENSBORO, Ky. — One part of the Owensboro Community & Technical College’s mission is preparing students to transfer to universities. In 2018-19, the latest numbers available, nearly 14,000 KCTCS students continued their education by transferring to a four-year partner. During National Transfer Student Week, which is Oct. 19-23, 2020 all 16 colleges in KCTCS will offer virtual transfer fairs. Students who intend to transfer can learn more about their university of interest and connect directly with representatives who can answer questions.

“We have found online transfer fairs to be very successful in the past,” said KCTCS Chancellor Kris Williams. “In today’s world, it’s also a safe way for our students to learn as much as possible about their transfer options from our many four-year partners.”

Nearly 50 universities are participating in the Thriving Through Transfer Fair. Students can view those partners and register online to participate at a time that is convenient. Some may receive a gift from participating universities. Statistics show community college transfer students do as well or better than students who started their education at a university.

Further, OCTC students can save as much as $32,000 by taking their first two years at a community college. Credits transfer easily and there are many scholarship opportunities available, including two plus two programs offered by some universities.

Students can register to attend this virtual event at https://kctcs.edu/transfer/transfer-fair.aspx. The transfer fair is completely free and many of the colleges or universities are giving away goodies to the students who visit during their live hours, Oct. 19-22. The fair is virtual and can be accessed at times that are convenient for the student. Friday, Oct. 23 OCTC staff will be available in the fair from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. to talk to students about everything they’ve learned and help with the student’s next steps.
