HARTFORD, Ky. — The COVID-19 pandemic has played havoc with schools around the country and now it seems the virus will postpone Ohio County High School students’ prom and graduation ceremony.
This morning on the OCHS Facebook Page, Principal Robert Asberry informed students looking forward to prom and seniors looking forward to a graduation ceremony may have to wait, but according to Asberry, “we WILL celebrate your achievements with a graduation ceremony and prom!”
Asberry went on to say he didn’t have any details on how these two “rites of passage” would take place or when, but both events, in some form, will happen.
At this time, the OCHS graduation ceremony is scheduled for 6 p.m. May 15, 2020. However, many, including Asberry, believe the COVID-19 crisis will force a postponement.
Asberry, though, reiterates, “A commencement ceremony will occur at some point in the future. On that day, the Class of 2020 will finally get honored in the way they truly deserve!”

“Ohio County High School Class of 2020 Students, Parents, and Guardians
We are so disappointed for you! You are a great class who has set a high standard for academics, effort, and school spirit! As we are sad for you, we are committed to continuing proactive steps to prioritize the health and safety of our staff and students. No one knows how long the shutdown will last or if we will be able to resume this school year. So much is up in the air, but you can bank on some assurances from us.
First, ALL decisions will put your safety first.
Second, we WILL celebrate your achievements with a graduation ceremony and prom! We don’t know when, how, or what it might look like. We only know we will for sure have these two rites of passage!
The end of your senior year is not what you were expecting, but please know OCHS values you and the hard work you have put in for 13 years to reach this milestone. Friday, May 15, at 6 p.m. is the tentatively scheduled graduation date, but it is looking like that date is not going to be possible the way this health crisis keeps progressing on a daily basis. A commencement ceremony will occur at some point in the future. On that day, the Class of 2020 will finally get honored in the way they truly deserve!
Stay safe!
Go Eagles!
Robby Asberry
Principal
Ohio County High School”
