HARTFORD, Ky. — Beth VanFleet, 73, of Hartford, died at home surrounded by her family Monday, Oct. 8, 2018. She was the beloved wife of the late Darrell VanFleet, and the daughter of the late Phillip McDaniel and Rodney Whobrey-McDaniel. She was born in Bowling Green, Kentucky, May 9, 1945. She was a long-time resident of Hartford.

For many years, Beth was an Academic Counselor working for Kentucky Community and Technical College systems. She always cherished and loved the time she would spend with her grandchildren. She loved to read and travel; she also enjoyed the theater and liked to write. She was a former high school English teacher with the Ohio County Schools. She was a former social worker with the Ohio County Hospital, and a volunteer member and past president of the Ohio County Hospital Auxiliary. She also helped to raise funds for the Oscar Allen Memorial Foundation.

She was an active member of the No Creek Methodist Church in Hartford where she served on various committees throughout the years. She was a member of the Ohio County Historical Society, the Hartford Woman’s Club, the Ohio County Homemakers Club (No Creek Chapter), and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Her family wishes to offer a special thank you to Theresa Decker for her support during their mother’s illness.

In addition her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a grandson, Samuel Junior Small III, and her brother, Phillip McDaniel.

She is survived by her children, a son, Rob VanFleet and his girlfriend, Dylan Stout, of Bowling Green, and a daughter, Jennie VanFleet-Small and her husband, Sam, of Hartford. Also surviving are two sisters, Terry McDaniel-Gilroy, of Dayton, Ohio, and Ruth McDaniel, of Greenville, Ohio, and two grandchildren, Julie Small and Jessica Nichole Small, both of Hartford.

Funeral Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford. Interment will follow at Carson Cemetery in Hartford. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Ohio County or No Creek Methodist Church.
