OWENSBORO, Ky. — Edna Earle Tanner Bivins, 91, passed away Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, at the Carmel Home, Owensboro. Mrs. Bivins formerly resided with her daughter, Judith Bivins Peters for several years. She was born in Ohio County, Kentucky, to the late Jeanette Johnson Tanner and Alney Tanner.

Edna was a graduate of Owensboro Technical High School in 1946. Upon graduation she began working as a bookkeeper for a financial institution where she retired after 34 years of service.

She was a faithful member of Breckenridge Methodist Church where she belonged to the United Methodist Women organization serving as Secretary for several years.

Besides working she had a passion for gardening, especially her beautiful roses, vegetable garden, and preparing wonderful family dinners. Edna may have lived a simple life, but her joy came from her family. It was all about the love she had for the children that brought her happiness. Whether it was a ball game, dance recital, school function, or caring for them on sick days, you would always know they would feel better after a day spent at Grandmother’s.

Edna and George “Daddy” also loved their short summer vacations to St. Louis to visit Edna’s brother and sisters, of course Edna was always behind the wheel. The backyard barbeques and a trip to the ballpark to cheer for the Cardinals always made for a special family time.

Mrs. Bivins was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, George V. Bivins, in 2000; her sisters, Dorothy Rae Martin, Winona Faye Parker; brothers, Rowan Ford Tanner, Allen Thomas Tanner, and Delbert Noel Tanner.

She is survived by her daughter, Judith Bivins Peters, of Owensboro; grandchildren, Kimberly Peters, of Lexington, Kentucky, Julie (Rick) Hobgood, Ashley Peters, Courtney (Tim) McEnroe, all of Owensboro; eight great-grandchildren, Blakeley (Ryan) McDaniel, Whitney McClellan, Kaitlyn Wells, Parker Peters, Hillary Payne, Addison McEnroe, Clayton Kamuf, and Hudson McEnroe; two great-great-granddaughters, Briley and Kensington McDaniel.

The funeral service for Mrs. Bivins will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel at Glenn Funeral Home. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of service at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery.
