Submitted by Bryan Wilson, Republican candidate for Ohio County Judge-Executive

God has truly blessed me throughout my whole life. As a young man, I knew God placed me on this earth to help people. As an educator, coach, athletic director and small business owner I have been blessed to be a part of so many lives.

It was with support from my family and friends that I chose to run for judge-executive of Ohio County. This May, I will be running on the Republican ticket for that position. The decision to run, was not a tough one to make, but one that took time.

Currently I feel that I have the greatest job in the world, but I know with the skills I possess and the love for others, I know that I can make this county proud. Ohio County deserves to be known in this state as a county that is on the move.

I am currently employed as an educator and an athletic director for Daviess County Public Schools. Teaching is a calling, and each day I get to be a part of molding young people’s lives. Two short years ago, with the help of a great friend and now business partner David Brownd, Slick Back Outdoors BBQ was launched. Each day I am amazed at the amount of love and support we have been given in Ohio County and surrounding communities. As the owner/operator of Slick Back Outdoors it has given me the chance to not only meet new people, but also create friendships.

I am the son of Michael and Cindy Wilson, both of whom are graduates of Ohio County High School. My fondest memories as a child are the ones spent on my grandparents James and Mary Wilson’s farm in Horse Branch.

Currently I live in Olaton with my wife Mary. We just recently celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary. Our family consists of my son Bennett, who is 9 years old, and my daughter Aubrey, who is now 6. My family and friends are a huge part of my life. Each day is a new adventure and I would not change any part of it.

Ohio County holds a very special place in my heart, and it is my goal to help everyone see how special this place truly is. Growth is happening and this county is filled with a very special group of people. During my campaign I have been asked by many what my plans are for the future. Some of the key areas I would like to work with and help improve is our work force. Candidates can preach that we need more employers in the county and we have to find ways to bring in new business. We definitely need more jobs, but we also have to not forget our current businesses and employers that struggle to keep dependable workers.

Our current residents need to be properly trained and given the skills they need to keep a job. Within our borders we have the ability to hire a lot of people who live in this county, but they also have to be paid a wage that can help raise a family. Better paying jobs in our county will come with a workforce that is eager and willing to work.

I plan on working with our youth while still in school. As a teacher I know that it starts with our children first. Other areas that I plan to work on would be our current budget and finding ways to support our local public service departments. Our volunteer fire departments need our help and they do everything they do for free!

Relationship building is one of my strongest areas, and I firmly stand behind the relationships that I have created. I will not make any promises to the people of Ohio County to gain your vote. I can only guarantee that I will give you everything I possibly can, and with your support I hope to become your new Judge Executive.
