Norman ‘Shorty’ Payton

McHENRY, Ky. — Norman “Shorty” Payton, 78, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018. He was born March 2, 1940, in Pattyville, Kentucky, son of the late Clinton and Lela Wilson Payton.

Shorty was a member of Independence Baptist Church, retired from Ohio County Sheriff’s Department, and was a member of McHenry Masonic Lodge #800 and Fordsville Masonic Lodge #600 for over 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Payton, in 2017. Also preceding were his parents; brothers, Charles, Stanley, Oral B., Parvin, and Marvin; and sisters, Nell, Daisy, Betty Raye and Laura.

Survivors include his son, Rondall (Kim) Payton; daughter, Norma (Kent) Stevens; three grandchildren, Cindy (Michael) Benitez, Jeff Payton, and Clinton “C.J.” Nanney; and two great-grandchildren, Emma Benitez and Damion Payton; and sister, Willie Maude Cook.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 24, at Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Beaver Dam with Bro. Jerry Toler officiating. Burial will follow in Render Memorial Cemetery in McHenry.

Friends may visit with the family Friday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Masonic Services will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
