OWENSBORO, Ky. — Richie Ellis, 86, of Owensboro, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 18, 2017, in Owensboro. Richard Hugh Ellis was born June 2, 1931, in Sacramento, Kentucky, to the late Isaac Jefferson and Rosalee Baggett Ellis, was married to the former Elizabeth Ann Huff Sept. 28, 1957, and was better known as “Richie” to his family and friends.

He retired as a cook from the Crounse Corporation, was a member of Calhoun Baptist Church and an Army Veteran of the Korean War.

Richie was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed both wood-working and fishing.

In addition to his parents, Richie was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Ellis, and by three sisters, Norma Jean Miller, Mary Sue Settle, and Barbara Beasley.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth Ellis; a son, Troy Lee Ellis, of Owensboro; a daughter, Bettina Hardesty and husband, Joseph, of Hartford, Kentucky; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Nelda Catlin, of Sebree, Kentucky.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel with Dr. Richard Sams officiating. Burial will be in the Poplar Grove Cemetery in McLean County with Military Honors conducted by the McLean County Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post # 5415. Friends may visit with Richie’s family from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday at Musters in Calhoun.

The Richie Ellis family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Poplar Grove Cemetery Fund; C/O Jerry L. Baggett; 5007 Pack Church Road; Rumsey, Kentucky 42371. Memorial contribution envelopes will be available at Musters in Calhoun.
